Does getting a disk lazered help?

One of my favourite games has recently been scratched, the scratch is small but quite thick and I'm not sure whether or not getting it "laser-ed" will make it work or not so I'd like to know if anyone has any information if that has worked for them. I have tried cleaning the disk but it just doesn't work.
